Priscilla Costume – This Would Make Your Elvis Costume Complete, With Her at Your Side

27 Jul

By Mark Q. Jackson

There is a Priscilla costume offered for those couples that wish to make believe they are the King and his wife.

This does not frequently call for to be bought. Pricilla did not have an onstage role as Elvis’s wife. But they were married in the 60’s and 70’s and the form back then must be matched. Her dress should be reach just above the knees with a zipper in the back. This was the usual style back then. As for colors, the far more outrageous, the better it will fit in. Stripes or patterns does not matter, most of the makers from this time are extended past and will never rise again in the trend world.

What will actually set of any attire of Pricilla is the wig. She wore her hair mainly in two styles, the beehive and long. The beehive is a hair style that takes the hair and wraps it up high above the head that actually does resemble a bee hive. If you are really excellent with hair, you can get the extended haired wig and shape it into the beehive. To make the beehive larger, some women have been recognized to the use pantyhose as the base to wrap the hair.

One of the nice items about any Priscilla costume is that there was always a bunch of leg showing, thus this was the modern day knee-high boots can be found and used. This way, the Priscilla costume will just appear like the king’s wife.

There is no better (or more fun) gift for true Elvis fans than the Elvis Bobblehead. Head on over to http://www.historyofelvis.com and get yours today!

Elvis Fancy Dress – A Look at 3 Elvis Presley Costumes From the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies

14 Jul

By Dan Fresh

Elvis fancy dress has always been a popular choice of outfit at Halloween, New Year’s Eve and even 70’s themed parties. However, most of the Elvis Presley costumes that you see are from his Las Vegas period, during the seventies, and while there are some wonderful examples from this period, it is worth knowing that there are equally some great Elvis fancy dress outfits available from the fifties and sixties as well.

Elvis Presley had a long and successful career, which covered many different styles, both musically and visually. Therefore, it seems a shame in a way, that most of the outfits that you see at these costume parties are representing the over-weight Elvis, towards the end of his career.

Below are my personal favourite Elvis Presley outfits from each of the three decades he was active, as the King of Rock and Roll, namely the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s:

1950’s – Jailhouse Rock outfit

Jailhouse Rock was an American motion picture, which was released in 1957, where Elvis plays an ex-convict working in the music industry. At the time that the film was released, it was considered almost scandalous and is certainly one of Presley’s most well known films.

The outfit worn in the the famous dance sequence through a jail cell block, which is considered by many to be the forerunner of the modern music video, is now available to buy as a fancy dress costume.

This great looking outfit includes a black and white striped shirt, a black printed jacket with a prisoner number on the left-hand side and a pair of matching black printed trousers.

1960’s – The ‘68 Comeback Special costume

Elvis starred in a 1968 United States television special, sponsored by Singer (the Sewing Machine Company), which is commonly referred to as the ‘68 Comeback Special, because of the impact it had on his future career.

You can now buy a fancy dress equivalent of the famous black leather jacket and trousers, which Presley wore in the ‘68 Comeback Special, that looks simply stunning.

1970’s – “American Eagle” suit

The white “American Eagle” jumpsuit, designed by Bill Belew, was made famous by Elvis during the “Aloha from Hawaii” music concert, which was broadcast live via satellite in January, 1973, and which was the most watched broadcast by an individual entertainer in television history.

The “American Eagle” costume consists of a white jumpsuit, with a printed gold eagle on the front that has been decorated with red and blue faux gems.

So where can you purchase these wonderful Elvis Presley costumes?

Please remember it is always important to ensure your fancy dress supplier has the outfit and accessories you want in stock, so that they are delivered in time for the party!

At the Elvis Fancy Dress section of the Fancy Dress UK website, if it says your order is in stock then you can rest assured that it is. Go there now and choose from a great range of Elvis Presley costumes.

Planning a Party Fit for a “King” Elvis Style

03 May

By Gail Leino

Elvis is one of the legendary performers of all time and everyone – and I do mean – everyone thinks they do the “perfect” Elvis impression. So, having an Elvis Theme party is the perfect opportunity to invite all Elvis clones young and all to show off their stuff. Guests should be encouraged to attend the Elvis Theme Party in their favorite Elvis costume or in a supporting role costume from one of Elvis’ famous movies or other performance. Guests should also be ready to perform at least one Elvis tune. Of course, many will pick the same Elvis song to perform, but I can guarantee they won’t put on any where near identical performances.

Guests should be given the opportunity to participate in an American Idol like contest based upon Elvis performances. Get some objective judges to act in the roles of Randy, Paula and Simon to critique the performances in the most positive, yet amusing ways possible. Then, when the performances are through, give the remaining guests the chance to “vote” for their favorite. As the votes are being tallied, open up the karaoke microphone to other budding songbirds that may just want to sing anything.

Decorations and party accessories will be easy to find. You can make your own unique invitations by writing directly onto old 45 records. Records and various Elvis paraphernalia will make great decorating accessories too. With the guests in full Elvis garb, be prepared to hear as you offer them drinks and appetizers, many replies of yes, thank you – thank you very much! The night will be kooky, and it will be fun, but I can guarantee that your home full of Elvis clones will be mighty quiet when they all leave to the point where you will be glad to say “Thank goodness, the last Elvis has left the building!”

Professional Elvis Costume Guide – What You Need to Know

Professional Elvis Costume Guide – What You Need to Know

By Eddy Firestone

The first thing to consider when dressing up as Elvis is the clothes. Whether you decide to go as an early era Elvis or a later/ Las Vegas style Elvis, there are many sources for suitable costumes. If you choose the clean cut Elvis of his first collaboration with RCA a good slightly oversized suit jacket with a skinny tie can be the main elements of the costume. If you decide that you’d like to be the later Las Vegas style Elvis, a good white jumpsuit with some glass jewels sewn on will certainly accomplish this goal with panache. It’s even better if you have a lot of chest hair to expose with a deep v-neck in the front. If not, you might consider a chest wig.

One of the most defining characteristics of Elvis was his attitude. If you’re going to embody the King for a night, you must consider a few key pieces of his persona. He was above all a sex symbol, so you must cultivate a sheepish sexy grin that entices everyone into worshipping at your feet. If you can grin with one half of your mouth, you’re well on your way.

The slicked pompadour that was his trademark style will help a lot. If you can’t get your hair to take that shape, or don’t want to bother, you can find Elvis wigs online. Keep in mind the new fad of using a pink wig (for your Elvis hair instead of the regular color of black. Once you consider that Elvis’ appeal was based generally in his attitude, you must then look at his physical expression. His stance and dance moves, and how that swagger of his encouraged everyone since to embody a looser and more casual confidence. His most popular full bodied photos show him always with his legs spread wide. He would often dance in this position and while it helped to ground him and keep his balance, the point of it was that it was highly sexualized.

The most important fact about Elvis and his success was undoubtedly his music and his velvety voice . While it’s not a requirement that you take on someone’s persona when you dress like them, it certainly can make an evening more fun. Listen to Elvis’ recordings and search for video clips online. If you can croon at least one line from one of his most popular songs, you’re sure to be the hit of the party.

The finishing touch on your Elvis getup, will have to be the faces that he made. A good standard is looking up with your head angled down. This forces you to raise your eyebrows and look questioningly up at someone. Practice the half grin that came so naturally to him and flare your nostrils slightly if you can. The desired effect is one of sexual suggestion and sheepish naivete, the combination of which is irresistible to any woman. At the end of your successful party performance, you must honor the guests with a final head-hung face- completely-loose, and hair falling out by this point, “Thank you very much”

To complete your costume, you will Need A Wig. The best way to find Discount Halloween Wigs is to search the internet. You can also find A Mullet Wig the same way.

Design Your Own Elvis Presley Halloween Costume!

22 Apr

By Eddy Firestone

Not sure what you want to be this Halloween? Designing your own Elvis Presley costume is a blast and it can be inexpensive too! We will walk you step by step through how to put together Elvis’s famed stage attire, but the ways of making an Elvis Presley costume are endless! Pick any era of the king from jailhouse rock to the good old fashioned hound dog Elvis!

Lets begin with his jacket, this is the hardest part to an Elvis Costume. If you have a great suit jacket then this will be perfect, you may just need to have it altered a bit! If your really feeling like getting Elvis back in the building then you want to sew this jacket yourself out of a suede style fabric. Elvis’ jacket was always tucked into his pants and left unbuttoned. If its your own suit, you will have to remove the front flaps of the jacket. Elvis always left his sleeves undone so that he could easily move his arms. You’ll also want to shape the collar so that it makes that classic popped out look around your face. Do this by lifting it up from the fold and using a small paperclip around the bottom of the neck area. You can decorate the jacket with pins! Elvis always wore a plain tee-shirt under his jacket, either white, red, blue, purple, yellow, or black!

The best place to find slacks for your Elvis Presley costume is at a neighborhood thrift shop! You are looking for tight-fitting, white pants! You want to cut the hems at the bottom as to create the classic Elvis bell-bottom effect! The next thing to add to our Elvis costume is a belt. Your belt should have a large buckle and should match your jackets color! Now comes the fun, Elvis Shoes! You want pointed black shoes, and a high heel would also add to the costume!

One of the most fun parts to an Elvis costume is the hair! If you have long hair and long sideburns then you can use gel to style it! If not, Elvis wigs are cheap and easy to find online. If you are styling your hair to look like Elvis’s use gel and slick it up into a pompadour!

If you really want to bring your Elvis costume to the next level, kick it up a notch with sunglasses, watch, guitar or even a microphone stand! The more time you put in, the more likely you will win best costume at your Halloween costume party!

Homemade Elvis Presley Halloween Costume Guide

17 Apr

By Eddy Firestone

If you decide to dress up as the young Elvis Presley for Halloween the first thing you’ll want to do is find pictures and video of his early performances. Unfortunately, there is not much video out there, because his performance style and dancing moves, were too sexually suggestive. When he appeared on the Ed Sullivan show, the camera was instructed to shoot him only from the waist up so that it could be broadcast as family entertainment.

Now that you’ve seen some video, you have a basic idea of what you’re going for, and we can begin to assemble the outfit. You can wear either the sleek black suit or a jacket and pants, but there are a few requirements. The jacket must be loosely fitted and can be either all black or all white or light a cream or very light yellow or beige will do). The tie, if you wear one should be skinny, as this was the fashion then. Most importantly, the pants must be wide legged and loose enough to allow much movement. In many videos of Elvis, he typically stands with his legs spread wide. This ends up accentuating the movement of his legs whether it’s shaking or tapping to the beat.

The imperative for an Elvis costume at any point in his career is the hair. You absolutely must have a perfect black pompadour with the a small piece at the front flopping around. It’s even better if you begin your night with the perfectly slick hairdo, and through the fervor of your spot on Elvis impersonation. If you can’t get your hair to behave like his, you may have to get an Elvis wig, but there are many great sources for fabulous Halloween costume wigs online.

For Halloween night, depending on your plans, you may want to bring a prop. The best Elvis props are guitars, or microphones. While a guitar makes it possible to sing Elvis’ songs with accompaniment, it can be cumbersome and you can also sing and have more freedom to dance if you only use a microphone, if you feel you need a prop at all, that is.

You’ll want to make sure that you hone some of Elvis’ signature dance moves, especially if you’re going to a party on Halloween night. If you watch videos of his early material, especially “Jailhouse Rock”, which he choreographed himself, you’ll see that he uses a lot of hip movement, and often bends his knees and sometimes shakes them during performances. If you’re wearing loose pants and dance this way, you’ll be sure to attract plenty of attention from the ladies. If you’re feeling particularly racy, you may even stuff your pants. It was rumored that Elvis had a pipe sewn into his pants to suggest that he was supremely well endowed. Whether he did or didn’t his dance moves and performance style made women crazy.

While Elvis was known popularly as a sex symbol, his fame was really instigated by his velvety voice and playful lyrics. If you’re dressing up as Elvis for Halloween, it’s a great idea to practice singing some of his songs. Pick the ones you like best and learn the words. Practice lowering your voice and mimicking his singing style. The best songs for a young Elvis to sing are Jailhouse Rock, Love me Tender, Hound Dog, Heartbreak Hotel, and Are you Lonesome Tonight.

Incorporate all of these elements into your Elvis Halloween costume, and you’re sure to be the hit of the night!

To Complete Your Costume You Will Need an Elvis Wig The best way to find one is to use a costume wig store like the one found if you Click Here.

1950’s Rockabilly Elvis Party Costumes

12 Apr

By Keith Sinclair

The fastest growing costume genre for fancy dress parties is that of the 1950’s and early 1960’s. Coming out of the doldrums of war and seeing austerity and rationing passing out of everyday life, the world looked full of optimism and colour. And the best of it all, Rock and Roll and the whole pop era was just around the corner. With this background it’s easy to see why party goers and party throwers continually look to the 50’s and 60’s for party ideas and inspiration.

The most popular costume from this era is that of Elvis. Born Elvis Aaron Presley in January 1935 he is known simply as Elvis or either ‘The King of Rock and Roll’ or more succinctly simply ‘The King’. Presley began his career singing rockabilly which is an up tempo mix of country and rhythm and blues and soon became one of the earliest exponents of rock and roll. Inducted a record number of times into the Music Hall of Fame his death at an early age of only 42 shocked and stunned his legions of fans worldwide.

OK, that’s the history lesson over. The reality of it is that Elvis is a figure who appears to grow more popular with each passing year. Costumes of the King of Rock and Roll are always in high demand and this has been further fueled by both Stag Night parties and, more lately, cricket fans where you commonly see a whole group of Elvis’s – and that’s before you have a drink.

Throughout his life Elvis had a distinctive style. His hair was always well groomed and in his later life he grew distinctive wide sideburns. He was also known for his outlandish stage costumes and lastly he became known for his trademark sunglasses. Any or all of these would identify your character as Elvis.

Most costume retailers today have a wide selection of Elvis costumes including outfits ranging from the more expensive which are perfect for impersonators and talent shows, to those which are great value for a night out or even a trip to the local karaoke. Teamed with a wig, and again these vary in price according to quality, and a pair of Elvis’s trademark sunglasses, a dummy microphone, a couple of big costume rings, a couple of ‘aha’s’ and you can’t go wrong.

If you don’t want to invest in a costume, skinny fit jeans, white tee, black jacket swept back black hair or wig, stick-on sideburns and you have early Elvis.

For those looking to achieve a more mature, mid-late 1960’s Elvis look, ditch the jeans and go for wide flared bottom trousers, plain or patterned shirt with ‘jumbo’ collar, costume jewellery, swept back hair or Elvis wig plus bigger stick-on sideburns. Add sunglasses to provide the finishing touch completing the look and transformation.

And there are a number of Elvis costumes specifically for children so that they can feel just like the King of Rock and Roll. Again, add the sunglasses, dummy microphone, costume jewellery and if suitable a wig and you get the finished and completed look. Great for school talent shows as well as themed birthday parties.

If the thought of being Elvis is off-putting, you don’t have to miss out on the fun as there are any number of styles that you could pick from. Guys can wear jeans with turn-ups, white tee and swept back ‘greased’ hair style and ladies can become either a 50’s vamp with clam digger trousers, tight jumper and chiffon scarf worn in the hair, or for a more gentle look a wide flared skirt with jumper. As with Elvis costumes, any good costume retailer will have a wide selection from you to choose from.

So wind up the karaoke find ‘Jailhouse Rock’ or ‘Hound Dog’, prepare to do damage to your hips and really let yourself go……!

Elvis Presley Costume – Viva Las Vegas

10 Apr

By Eddy Firestone

1- Jumpsuit – If you are going to dress up as a Las Vegas era Elvis, you absolutely must wear a jumpsuit. While he wore many different jumpsuits during his reign as the king of rock and roll, the classic and perhaps the most memorable is the white or light colored jumpsuit with an inlaid design made with glass gems.

2- Glass inlays/designs – While his were designed mostly by Bill Belew and intricately decorated , there are inexpensive versions on the internet available for purchase. The jumpsuit must have a very low v-neck in front and a strong large collar that can be flipped up in the trademark style.

3- Hair – Elvis’ hair is one of the most important aspects of his persona . The King himself used Blue-black hair color and a gel/pomade as a styling product. If your hair is straight or has a slight wave and is cut in the appropriate style (he was wearing his hair longer at this time), you can wear your hair exactly like his. If you do not want to color your hair or don’t have the right texture, you can buy an Elvis Presley wig online. Keep in mind there is a new fad of using hot pink wigs for Elvis’ hair rather(than the normal color of black.

4- Sideburns – During the sixties and seventies, when Elvis was performing in Las Vegas, his generally moderate sideburns grew quite a bit. He grew them out so that they were longer and became a more prominent feature of his face. He let them grow into the hollows of his cheeks instead of too far along his jawline. Since, some men may not be able to grow sideburns in that area of their faces, most websites that sell Elvis wigs 0r Halloween costume wigs also sell sideburns either attached or separately.

5- Chest hair – Elvis may have originated the style of a deep v-neck exposing a lot of chest hair with accessories, that became a significant style choice in the sixties. He was not a man who was ashamed of his physique.

6- Jewelry – Elvis was very proud of his accessories and wore his jewelry with pride. His main jeweler was Lowell Hays, and he has retained the original molds of the pieces he crafted for Elvis himself. There are many reproductions available on the web, and you can generally find cheaper versions at any accessory shop. He often wore a gold cross on a long chain around his neck and some sort of a large chunky ring like a lion or a large gold nugget with a black stone set inside.

7- Sunglasses – Elvis had a trademark pair of sunglasses emblazoned with a the letters TCB on the nose piece. He also used these letters on many pieces of jewelry. They stood for Takin’ Care o’ Business, from a Diana Ross and The Supremes TV special. Elvis also wrote a TCB oath and is can be found online as well.

8- Scarf – Elvis’s scarf was a big part of his performing in Las Vegas. It became not only a staple of his performance costume, but he used it in dance moves as well. He also frequently gave away his scarves to lucky young ladies in the audience. This is a perfect final touch to end your evening as The “King”- give your white silk scarf to one of your adoring fans!

To make your costume the best it can be, you will need Discount Costume Wigs. If you are having trouble finding an Elvis Wig at a Discount Costume Wig store, do an internet search for Raggedy Ann Wig. Any store with one of those will also have an Elvis wig.
